I can not believe how quickly this year seems to be flying by! I still feel as though I am in summer time but lo and behold we are almost to December. And this Thursday is one of my favorite holidays of the year, Thanksgiving.
While I strongly believe that we should aim to be thankful at all times, it still feels so special to publicly share with family and friends all the blessings you have received and are grateful for in life. In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, I urge you to set aside some time to think about all the things that you are thankful for. For me, I like going from micro to macro. I first think about things that I have been grateful for this week, then this month, then this year, then the past decade and so on and so forth. It forces you to take a look at the entire picture and recognize all of the blessings you have received throughout the course of your life. You might think of loving relationships that you have had. It can make you think of good memories and experiences you have had. It can also make you realize everything you have accomplished and want to continue doing. It is truly a holiday that calls on reflection and gratitude and one I enjoy thoroughly. (And I love getting people around a table full of food too!)
Many also travel during this holiday but for those of you who are staying in Los Angeles or who are visiting here, I’ve put together a list of some activities that will be taking place during Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving Lunch at the Aquarium of the Pacific
Try a slightly different take on Thanksgiving and head to Long Beach for lunch on Thanksgiving. The aquarium will also be open that day if you would like to explore that afterwards as well. The menu includes Thyme and Sage Oven Roasted Turkey with Gravy, Roasted Butternut Squash, Zucchini, Yellow Squash 7 Sweet Red Pepper, Sweet and Savory Cornbread Stuffing and much much more. The ticket price for adults is $55 and for children 3-11 it is $27.50.
Descanso Gardens – Enchanted: Forest of Light
Descanso Gardens in La Cañada, California is presenting to the public once more their enchanted light up experience. It is an interactive experience and the gardens set up eight illuminated installations. Explore the magical and whimsical lights that cover the gardens grounds. A pro about this attraction is that it is open until January 7 of 2018!
Turkey Trot Los Angeles
In Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles, the Turkey Trot will be held. People from all over Los Angeles come to participate in either a 5k or 10k run/walk. They even offer a “Widdle Wobble” for kids 10 and under. The turkey themed is carried out in participants coming in turkey costumes for the costume contest and even a turkey calling contest. One of the best things is that the race benefits the Midnight Mission.
I wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. There is so much to be grateful for!
